Modern day lingo shortens famous people's names:
Jennifer Lopez ... J.Lo
Brad & Angelina ... Brangelina
Charles Dickens ... Chickens
Yeah, nah — I came up with the last one!
Charles Dickens is not modern, and nothing about his literary legacy spells 'chicken.'
I haven't read any Dickens' books from start to finish, (I'm okay with it — don't judge me!). Great Expectations I put down, never to pick up again, when lured by a current title. I returned the copy to the library, unfinished. I didn't mean to desert it! Contemporary titles pique my interest more than the classics. I didn't read Dickens in high school ... and perhaps I never will.
I admire what I know of Dickens' work, and I remind myself that he was a fledgeling writer once upon a time and quite possibly felt 'chicken' before his books flew off book-vendor shelves into the hands of hungry readers' keen on his social commentary, word-smithing, and beloved characters.

When self-doubt strikes me ...
I think of Dickens perhaps being chicken too, back in the day. He was a literary genius who put pen to paper and the rest is history.
I am a humble, bumbling writer of prose, who will keep writing because I love it. Self-doubt is part of the process.
